Golden milk has gained quite popularity over the past few years, and for a very good reason.  Some people choose to end their day with a warm cup of golden milk, while others enjoy it in the morning as the perfect swap for coffee.

It is made up of coconut milk and turmeric spice as key ingredient.  Some variations of the recipe even call for coconut oil. Turmeric has been long used and appreciated for its medicinal properties, but in the U.S people still rarely consume it.  Golden milk is the best way to change this, as each cup of this soothing beverage yields a dose of this “spice of life”.

Turmeric offers countless benefits, which is one of the reasons why people in India refer to it as the “spice of life”.  Both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine used this golden spice to treat skin problems, sprained muscles, joint pain, wound healing, liver disease, and respiratory ailments.

The benefits of turmeric have been well documented, and curcumin, its bioactive ingredient, has been shown to promote health and prevent the onset of various health conditions.  As a matter of fact, it has over 150 therapeutic activities, such as potent anti-cancer, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

It has been found that curcumin works on multiple levels and has wide-ranging mechanisms of action, which explains why it acts as such potent medicine.  Specifically, researchers have discovered that curcumin has the ability to modulate over 160 different physiological pathways, make the cell`s membranes more orderly, modulate over 700 genes, and interact with histone, DNA and RNA, inflammatory molecules, different carrier proteins and metal ions, cell survival proteins, and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV1) integrase and protease.

Golden milk is extremely nutritious and healthy beverage, offering a wide plethora of health benefits. Among them are:

  • Prevents liver damage
  • Protects against fibrosis and pulmonary toxicity
  • Stimulates the secretion of bile
  • Accelerates wound healing
  • Suppresses tumor growth
  • Protects against cataracts
  • Suppresses symptoms of type II diabetes
  • Suppresses symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Suppresses thrombosis
  • Suppresses symptoms of multiple sclerosis
  • Suppresses symptoms of Alzheimer`s disease
  • Inhibits HIV replication
  • Promotes healthy cholesterol levels

Combining turmeric or turmeric-spiced food and beverages with black pepper boosts curcumin`s bioavailability (absorption) by 2,000%.
